Ankara, May 30: Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has cancelled a planned visit to Argentina without giving any specific reason.
The prime minister’s office announced late on Saturday that Mr. Erdogan, on a three-nation tour, has cancelled his upcoming visit to Argentina and will, in due course, issue a written statement on the reason for the cancellation.
He was scheduled to travel to Argentina after a visit to Brazil in order to meet President Cristina Kirchner on Monday, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The Hurriyet daily’s website reported that Erdogan decided to cancel the visit after the Argentine authorities cancelled the inauguration of a bust of the Turkish republic’s founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, in Buenos Aires.
Erdogan is also scheduled to visit Chile.
