Turkish ground troops enter Iraq seeking to capture Kurdish rebels

London: Turkish ground troops have entered northern Iraq with an aim to capture Kurdish rebels who had crossed the border over the weekend, killing 16 soldiers in a rebel attack, said a government official in Turkey.

According to the Guardian, demonstrators in Istanbul took to the streets over the weekend attack and the killing of 14 police officers on Tuesday in a bombing in eastern Turkey.

Furious crowds attacked newspapers and the offices of a pro-Kurdish political party.

Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu appealed for calm, asking citizens to have confidence in the state.

On Monday, Turkish warplanes struck Kurdish insurgent targets in northern Iraq and killed dozens of rebels. (ANI)
