Hatay [Turkey]: Turkey has sent a military convoy carrying howitzers to its Gaziantep province, close to the Syrian border on Saturday (local time).
This is being seen as an attempt by Turkey to strengthen its military capabilities before a possible counter-terrorism operation in northern Syria, according to Anadolu Agency.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had earlier indicated that a cross-border operation may be launched soon against the terrorist organisations Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and its Syrian outfit People’s Protection Units (YPG).
The PKK, which has been listed as a terrorist outfit by the USA, Turkey and the European Union (EU) has killed over 40,000 people in Turkey in the last 30 years.
