Turkey sets deadline for Israel to deliver drones

Ankara, November 22: Turkey has given Israel 50 days to fulfill a long-delayed deal for delivering 10 drones to the Turkish army, Turkey’s defense minister says.

Vecdi Gonul added that a letter has been sent to the contractors, Israel Aerospace Industries and Elbit, to inform them of the deadline.

“If this letter does not bear fruit either, the tender may be cancelled. But there is no cancellation at the moment,” AFP quoted Gonul as saying on Saturday.

Turkey awarded the contract in April 2005 and at the time the Israeli contractors were expected to fulfill the contract in 24 to 30 months.

Turkey’s determination to defend the Palestinian nation’s rights against the Israeli atrocities has angered Tel Aviv.

Last month Turkey cancelled a joint air force drill with Israel, saying ties would continue to suffer unless Israel ends “the humanitarian tragedy” in the Gaza Strip.
