Turkey raps Israel for Iran attack threat

Ankara, November 13: Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has criticized Israel over its recent threat to attack the Islamic Republic of Iran, Media reports.

Davutoglu said on Saturday that the creation of new tension in the region was unacceptable, noting, “We do not think that it is right to put any possibility of a military operation in the region on the agenda.”

“We are against this military action. It will create new instability in the region,” Davutoglu said, adding that “Everybody must behave with moral principles.”

On November 6, Israeli President Shimon Peres threatened that an attack against the Islamic Republic was becoming ‘more and more likely.’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Military Affairs Ehud Barak have also reportedly been lobbying the Israeli cabinet to approve of a military strike on Iran.

Iranian officials have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.

The commander of Iran’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan says the damage Israel sustained during its offensives against Lebanon and the Gaza Strip has rendered Tel Aviv incapable of “opening a new front” against Iran.

Pourdastan likewise said “the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are ready to respond to any threats.”
