Turkey mulls building third n-plant

Istanbul: Turkey is planning to build a third nuclear power plant with companies from the US, China and Japan among potential bidders for the project, a Turkish minister said on Wednesday.
“A third nuclear power plant is planned to be built in the northern area of Igneada,” Xinhua quoted Turkish Energy Minister Ali Riza Alaboyun as saying.
“For the moment a memorandum of understanding has been signed with Chinese companies and with US-based Westinghouse,” he said, noting Japanese companies had shown interest as well.
Igneada, a small town 200-km northwest of Istanbul, is famous for its floodplain forests and beautiful long beach.
Turkey’s first nuclear power plant project was undertaken by a Russian company in the southern province of Akkuyu, while the second one was awarded to a Japanese-French consortium in May 2013 to be constructed in the northern province of Sinop.
