In the wake of the terror attack that left 39 people dead in a Tunisian resort town, the country has announced its decision to shut down at least 80 mosques accused of inciting violence.
Prime Minister Habib Essid remarked that the mosques, which operated outside state control, were spreading ‘venom’ and will be shut down within a week, reported the BBC.
The decision came after a gunman opened fire on tourists in the beach town of Sousse, killing dozens of people. The attack was claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria ( ISIS).
The assailant, who was a student, was shot dead by the police.
This was the second major terror attack on tourists in Tunisia since March, when militants killed 22 people at a museum in the capital city of Tunis. (ANI)
