Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao today slammed AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi for criticizing Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao with regard to farmers’ issues and welfare.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan here, Tummala alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharosa Yatra” was aimed at boosting morale of the disheartened Congress workers in the State. “It is shameful to hear that some people complained to Rahul Gandhi that farmer took to the extreme step during the Congress regime. Rahul should first reply as to why the UPA-II regime could not prevent suicides by farmers across the country”, he asked. “Did Rahul’s Yatra meant to find fault with the fruits of welfare schemes reaching those who were denied them during the Congress regime? Rahul came here only to awake the snoring Congress men in the Telangana State,” he alleged.
Rejecting Rahul’s comments that KCR was ignorant of the suicides, Tummala alleged that the nation witnessed innumerable suicides of farmers during the Congress rule at the Centre. Nageswhar Rao sought to know why the AICC leader could not take up similar tours in the Congress-ruled States. The Congress has no right to criticize the Telangana government as the Chief Minister was committed to provide a timely succor to the families of the deceased besides implementing many welfare measures for the downtrodden sections.
Ridiculing Rahul’s comments, Rao said KCR offered Rs 17,500 crore towards crop loan waiver besides providing uninterrupted power supply to crops, domestic and industrial consumers. The Congress government, which resorted to lathi-charge on the farmers for seeking fertilizers and pesticides, has no moral right to point its accusing finger at the TRS government, he said. Despite being 10 months old, the TRS Government kept its promises and also taken up many welfare schemes, he said, adding that the Congress should refrain from coming in the way of Telangana development.
