Women and Child Welfare Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao on Monday informed that nearly 37,000 Anganwadi Centres were functioning across the Telangana State.
Addressing the review meeting at NAC Auditorium in Hitech City here, the minister said that besides imparting education to children, lunch was being served to children and pregnant women at those centres. He said Telangana has the highest number of Anganwadi Centres in the country. He said that the Central Government did not release any funds for these Centres for the last nine months and the State Government alone was bearing the entire cost.
The minister said that the State Government has recently increased the salaries of Anganwadi teachers and other staff. He also enquired about different problems being faced by the department. He said that the State Government would construct permanent buildings for Anganwadi Centres in a phased manner. (INN)
