NEW DELHI: Women, men, and children of Shaheen Bagh invited Prime Minister Modi on Saturday, 18 January to visit them for Chai pe Charcha and listen to their Mann Ki Baat.
The new campaign titled #TumKabAaoge is the brainchild of ‘Friends of Shaheen Bagh.’
The postcards were written enthusiastically and energetically in Urdu, Hindi, and English invited the PM for tea to come and discuss their concerns.
Around 20,000 postcards collected by volunteers across Delhi would be sent on Monday to the PM’s residence.
The burqa-clad women present in large numbers from the day the protests began only appealing to the PM to rollback CAA and not implement NRC across the country.
However, PM Modi, who had addressed hundreds of ‘ Chai Pe Charcha’ during his campaign in the 2014 election and who hailed the contentious Triple Talaq Bill by calling it a ‘Victory For Crores Of Muslim Mothers, Sisters,’ did not turn up at the protest site to meet his Muslim mothers and sisters.
The sit-in by the protesters against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) on Saturday entered the 36th day.
The hashtag #मोदीजी_शाहीनबाग_कब_आओगे trended for about 14 hours with 1,22,000 tweets.
Despite the Delhi Police appealed to clear the main road of Shaheen Bagh, the protesters determined to continue with their sit-in unless their issues and concerns are addressed.
A 40ft-tall steel map of India decorated with slogans “We the people of India don’t accept CAA, NPR and NRC“ has been put up at the site.
Protests broke out in different parts of the country against and in support of CAA which excluding Muslims, grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
