Hyderabad: Come September and it reminds everyone specially the older generation the great Musi River flood. People remember the kind attitude of Nizam towards his subjects. Rich tributes are paid, in an annual function held in the Afzal Park, to the tamarind tree located in the premises of Osmania hospital which saved as many as 150 lives. The tree is also remembered as Saviour Tree. This time heavy rains brought back the memories of Musi River flood of 1908. This year the city received highest rainfall in last 100 years.
Amidst this rain fury Mr. Syed Ayyub Pasha Quadri R/O Chhawni Ghulam Murtuza near Quadri Chaman handed over a rare map to Siasat prepared by Mr. Mohammed Ahmed servant in Nizam Railway. The map displays the historical of Musi River Flood and contains all the details of flood affected areas where the water flowed through and wreaked havoc. Localities like Petlaburj, Ghansi Miya Bazar, Koka ki Tatti, Chudi Bazar, Dhoolpet, Chaderghat, Kattal Mandi, Kolsa Wadi, Feel Khana Dewani, Chaakna Wadi, Bhoiguda, Gosha Mahal and other areas have been mentioned as the worst affected.
Immediate steps were taken after the devastating flood to prevent further damage. As part of the rehabilitation efforts langar (free food) was served to both vegetarians and non vegetarians.
This time areas like Nizampet, Kala Patthar, Tadbun, Ali Nagar Nagole, Nacharam, inundated by heavy downpour, brought back the memories of devastative Tughyani Sitambar.
