TTD hammers out a new deal for priests

Tirumala, July 14: There is a solution in sight for the ongoing battle between the archakas and the TTD administration. The warring parties have come to an agreement which the TTD Trust Board is going to accept at its meeting on July 17.

However, there will be no revival of the mirasidar system either in the famous Tirumala temple or in other scheduled temples in the state. Through the archaka row of Tirumala temple, the state government has taken an opportunity to clarify its stand on several issues, including the mirasidar system.

Accordingly, chief minister K Rosaiah had asked endowments minister Gade Venkata Reddy to solve the problem.

Principal secretary of endowment revenue KV Ramanachary, TTD executive officer IYR Krishna Rao and senior officials held discussions with Venkata Reddy in this regard. After consultations with the chief minister, a conclusion was drawn on the mirasidar issue, which was also accepted by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), according to highly placed sources.

The solution includes a special package for mirasidars and other contract archakas.

According to the draft proposal, there will not be any revival of the mirasidar system, which has been accepted by the Tirumala temple archaka mirasidar families. The revival of mirasidar system was also not contemplated in the amendment to 2007 Act, said a senior TTD official.
