Tsunami in Japan

The life, either individual or collective, is subject to a predetermined time. Japan achieved enormous success in the field of technology, invented bullet train, created tools to detect earthquakes beforehand to prevent its country from natural disasters and took many other preventive measures but no one could stand up against the nature’s supremacy nor will any one. People in Japan are used to earthquakes. This country is declared as earthquake prone area the people of that country have made their living structure according to that.

Despite of all precautionary measures it is sure to happen what nature has in store. The earthquake which occurred in 1923 had left lakhs of people dead. Since then the country has been hit by earthquakes a number of times. The scientific and protective technology of Japan is acknowledged worldwide, but the powerful tsunami triggered by a massive earthquake which hit the country on Friday has obliterated the northern cities of Japan. The aftereffects of catastrophic earthquake and the devastating Tsunami are intense. It’s hard to assess the damages caused to life and property. The 33 ft water wall washed away all the human determinations, precautionary measures and scientific knowledge in the spur of a moment. Cars, ships, airplanes and tall buildings were seen floating like toys. A large area of Japan was ruined. Thousands of people died and lakhs were stranded.

Following the earthquake of 8.9 intensity, in the region, tsunami warnings were issued for the entire Pacific region. Warning had also been issued to India however the Tsunami warning centre of Hyderabad ruled out a tsunami threat in India. But this is the time to be vigilant hence the government of India and weather service agencies should not show carelessness and should continue the signal of alert. The disastrous earthquake and the devastating tsunami have reduced the human power of Japan to nothing, so in this situation of emergency all the countries coming within the range of this horrible tsunami needs to be kept alert. Tsunami warning has also been issued to Russia, Taiwan, Philippine, Indonesia, New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, Mexico, Chili, Columbia, and other countries. The most sensitive area is Hawaii Island. The north and South American coasts were also sent warnings.

The videos of Japanese television channels came as grim updates indicating appalling destruction caused by the earthquake and tsunami. The horrifying factor of the incident was the game of fire and water which made the destruction more horrific. Following the large scale destruction in various cities of Japan the fires blazed and spread over the entire region.

Japanese government had claimed that its nuclear power plant is safe but the explosion caused in the nuclear power plant the day after the tsunami, rebutted its claim. Japan, a country which was regarded as the uncrowned king of electronic world, feels helpless to prevent its people from the nature’s fury. The factories of Sony, the biggest electronic company of the country, were shut down. A report that the reactor’s cooling system has failed is also a cause to worry. The area around the nuclear power plant was evacuated upto four kilometers of its diameter. But the concern of Japanese government regarding other nuclear plants needs global attention. American air force has taken measures to stop increasing heat of the nuclear power plant. Other countries too offered all possible cooperation in this critical moment. United Nations should prepare itself for maximum assistance. India and China also expressed deep sympathy for Japan and offered possible help.

It is also a fact that when natural disasters appear anywhere, the development process suffers the most. Though Japan has the past experiences of earthquakes yet its recent destruction by earthquake and the resulting tsunami will affect its development process. The most important issue is its infrastructure destruction. This situation can slow down the process of development. But the people of Japan are famed for their determination. It is due to their courage and determination that Japan is well ahead in the pace of growth despite several damages in the past.

Regardless of that when circumstances hinder the course of development then human intellect has no capacity before nature’s power. Japanese government needs to guard its people from the destruction of tsunami and take measures to stop the radioactive emissions from the nuclear plant as the damage that will be caused by the nuclear plants will be more horrible than the destruction of tsunami. In this critical moment all the countries should show utmost compassion towards Japan.
