Agartala, November 18: A jawan of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) was killed and another injured in an encounter today with insurgents of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) at Dhumacherra in Dhalai district, about 70 km from here.
A contingent of Tripura State Rifles which was returning from an anti-insurgency search operation in Longterai valley was fired upon by the ultras at around 8:30 AM, DIG Police (Control) Nepal Das said.
The TSR personnel immediately retaliated which led to a 30-minute gun battle after which the insurgents fled, he said.
Of the two injured jawans, one later succumbed at the Agartala Medical College Hospital here.
