Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said that the Telangana Government has been striving hard to bring exemplary development in rural areas.
Addressing a conference in National Institute of Rural Development in Rajender Nagar on Thursday, the minister said that the Telangana Government was the first in the country to amend 25-year-old Panchayat Raj Act. He said necessary amendments were brought in to ensure Gram Swaraj. He said villages and rural areas could not be developed without empowering the local bodies. He said that the government would give all powers to Sarpanches and Gram Sabhas. He also promised to increase funds for Gram Panchayats. (INN)
