The Telangana Government today conducted 87th birth anniversary of former Union Minister and stalwart of Dalits uplift G Venkatswamy with State honours across all districts paying floral tributes.
At Hussain Sagar Park near Tank Bund, Deputy Chief Ministers Kadiam Srihari, Mahamood Ali, Ministers Nayani Narsimha Reddy, T Harish Rao, MPs K Keshav Rao, D Srinivas, sons of Kaka — former MP Vivek and former minister Vinod and others paid floral tributes.
Speaking on the occasion, Srihari noted that Venkataswamy fondly known as Kaka had played a great role for the uplift of Dalits and downtrodden sections. Kaka held various positions and exposed his efficiency of how Dalit leaders can do their best for the society. Kaka was elected MP for seven times and MLA twice and shown complete empathy for Dali welfare and made efforts towards the growth of the masses, he noted. Srihari also showered praises on Venkatswamy for providing free education to thousands of Dalits through setting up Ambedkar Education Society and also for trying to address the problems of labourers.
Mahmood Ali said Kaka was the great son of Telangana and used to show affection towards others. His sons Vivek and Vinod are taking Kaka’s ideals to future generations by serving society, he said. Home Minister Nayani said he learnt much from Kaka for the cause of labour welfare. Being a member of many committees, Venkataswamy offered his best to resolve the issues pertaining to labourers, he said.
Harish Rao said Kaka’s efforts are always remembered by leaders, people and labourers. Singareni Collieries survived through Kaka’s efforts, he said. Harish Rao also noted that the entire Telangana fondly calls Venkataswamy as Kaka with due respect and honour. Kaka offered free education to Dalits by setting up Ambedkar College at Chikkadapally and strove relentlessly for the uplift of the Dalits and lower classes. K Keshava Rao asked the youth to emulate Kaka, who rose to become a system rather than a human-being. MLAs, MLCs, leaders, Purnabodha Nanda of Ramakrishna Math and others were present. (NSS)
