TS poised to achieve 960 MW solar power

Telangana’s target of solar power generation is achievable and the government is confident that it will have a capacity of 960 MW solar power by the end of the next financial year.  Principal Secretary, Energy Arvind Kumar told the Union Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Tarun Kapoor.

 

The Officials of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy held a meeting with the Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar and other officials at the secretariat on Friday and discussed the implementation of the Solar Energy Policy in the State. The Union Joint Secretary appreciated the Telangana government for its proactive policies on solar power and said the State has become a role model for other States in the country. The centre on its part was working on addressing the core issues such as distribution, transmission and financing of the solar power projects, Tarun Kapoor said.

 

The Principal Secretary said the State has made rapid strides in the solar power generation during the last one year.  The total installed solar generation capacity is likely to cross 450 MW.  Tendering for solar projects totalling 2000 MW has already been completed. In wind energy, Telangana has a potential of 4000 MW. Referring to the Solar Park which would come up in Mahbubnagar district, he said once the land for the project would be available, the bidding process would be taken up.  The detailed project report for the project will be ready by the middle of next month.

The Principal Secretary explained about the green hub incubation centre, which the State government was planning to take up with the technical cooperation of the University of Texas and sought funding from the Government of India under the Green Energy Fund.  The Union Joint secretary responded positively and wanted the State government to send a proposal to the government at the earliest.
