Minister for Power G Jagadish Reddy today slammed the Opposition parties for trying to malign the image of the government by blaming that no steps have been taken for power production and ignoring proposed power plants.
During question hour in the Assembly today, Jagadish Reddy gave strong counter to the Opposition remarks and informed that the Telangana has set a target to produce 2000 mw solar energy by December this year. He said Telangana State, which holds second place with 1300 mw after Rajasthan in Solar Energy will become No 1 at national level by December.
Replying to posers by the members such as Somarapu Satyanarayana, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Janardhan Reddy and others, Jagadish Reddy said he was ready to take suggestions from the members, who should refrain from making false allegations related to the power projects, solar energy, wind power and hydel power. “We are firm and produce adequate power”, he said, adding that works on for Bhadradri Kothagudem power plant, Dummgudem and also wind energy. He said as part of an official study tour, he made a visit to China and Hong Kong wherein latest technology was being used though cost of power production was more which is likely to come down in the future. “We will use latest technologies and focus on encouraging solar energy”, he said.
Trying to allay doubts of some Opposition members, Reddy said Yadadri power plant will be completed as per plan. There was no going back on Yadadri power plant as was being rumored by some Opposition members, he asserted. He further said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was committed to produce power through various plants with a focus on reducing costs and adopting transparent methods to open bidding to ensure that power utilities get abundant power to cater to growing needs. Based on water availability, which was important, the government plans to go in for power production at Tupakulagudem, Kaleswaram and other places. The State is now producing 2400 mw hydel power, 240 mw at Jurala and works were on at Pulichintala, he added. (NSS)
