TS Ministers meet Union Ministers seeking help for farmers

A delegation of Telangana Ministers and TRS MPs called on Union Ministers for Agriculture and Textiles, Radhe Mohan Singh and Santosh Gungwar respectively, seeking Central assistances for the farmers of Telangana.

The delegation comprised of Deputy Chief Ministers Kadiyam Srihari and Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, TRS MPs Jithender Reddy and K. Kavitha, Telangana’s representative in New Delhi Venugopal Chary and other leaders. During their interaction with Radhe Mohan Singh, they demanded Rs. 1,000 crore package for the drought hit farmers of Telangana. Speaking to media persons later, Kadiyam said 231 mandals of Telangana State were badly hit due to drought and Centre should extend immediate financial assistance besides providing input subsidy and fertilizers to affected farmers.

The Telangana delegation urged the Textiles Minister to provide Minimum Support Price to cotton farmers. Kadiyam said present price was too low for the cotton farmers to even recover their input cost. He said that the BJP-led NDA had promised to pay Rs. 5,000 per quintal to cotton farmers. However, it did not increase the prices after coming to power.

Both the Union Ministers have assured to provide required assistance to the farmers of Telangana. (INN)
