TS Govt to shortly evolve new IT Policy

Telangana government would shortly usher-in a new IT policy to promote IT industries in the state, IT minister K Taraka Rama Rao informed the Legislative Council here today.

To a question by TRS Member Paturi Sudhakar Reddy who wanted to know the details of concessions being provided to IT companies in the state, the minister said as per the existing IT policy of 2010-2015, eleven incentives are being provided to promote growth of IT industries.

He said 25 per cent power subsidy, conversion of Industrial power tariff, 50 to 100 per cent stamp duty refund and allotment of land were among the eleven incentives.

The minister, however, added that a new IT policy would be introduced soon to promote IT industries in the state.

MIM Member Janab Altaf Hyder Rizvi said that the lands allotted to IT firms, particularly in Madhapur and its surroundings, were being misused and some companies have converted IT parks into housing/residential parks which is against the spirit of the policy. He wanted to know what steps the government is taking against these firms.

Congress Member Rangareddy said the government should hold talks with IT firms to provide jobs to local youth when they were being given various incentives.

The minister said the government has already issued notices to IT firms which have violated the norms. If they failed to respond, the government would not hesitate even to cancel the land allotment and take stern action against them, Rao said. (NSS)
