The Telangana Government has decided to seek public opinion to implement its promise of providing KG to PG free education.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao here on Saturday. Education Minister Jagadish Reddy and senior IAS officials including RK Meena, Shailaja, Pradeep Chandra, Jayesh Ranjan, Somesh Kumar, Narsing Rao, Sridhar and Smitha Sabharwal attended the meeting.
The Chief Minster said that irrespective of their socio-economic status, all children of Telangana should get quality education in English medium for free. He directed the officials to gather public opinion in this regard by conducing workshop involving experts, educationists and intellectuals and prepare an action plan. He also directed the officials to take immediate steps to improve the quality of education in welfare hostels. He said that the students of primary sections should get both, nutritious food and quality education.
The Chief Minister also discussed the proposals to establish two-three residential schools in every mandal to offer education up to 12th class. It was also proposed to start residential schools from 4th class onwards; residential schools in English medium for students from 5th to 8th class; conversion of three-four existing schools in each mandal to English medium and later, converting all schools to English medium; three-four residential schools in each mandal and conversion of Telugu medium students and teachers to English medium.
KCR also directed the officials to ensure that quality food and other facilities are provided to the inmates of all residential institutions in Telangana State. (INN)
