The Telangana Government on Friday issued orders constituting a Cadaver Certification Committee for providing unclaimed dead bodies for purposes of dissection to Government Medical Colleges and on payment to Private Medical Colleges in the State of Telangana for academic purpose.
The Committee would consist of Superintendent of Hospitals, Principals of Medical Colleges, three Forensic Experts of Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor cadre among whom one shall be professor, Police Personnel not below the rank of Sub-Inspector of Police, Professor and HOD of Department where the deceased was received and treated in the hospital prior to his/her death, Civil Surgeon RMO/Deputy Civil Surgeon RMO, Professor and HOD of Anatomy or his representative (Professor of Associate Professor cadre) and Assistant Director of General Hospital, if not available, Assistant Director of attached Medical College.
However, the quorum would be of at least five members. But the presence of Superintendent /RMO, Police Personnel, minimum of two Forensic experts and Professor from Anatomy Department will be mandatory. The Committee would meet at least once in 15 days or whenever required. The Cadaver Certification Committee will take up the decision of declaration of natural death and hand over the Cadaver to Department of Anatomy for academic purpose.
The government has enhanced the fee for provision of dead bodies to the private medical colleges from Rs 15,000/ to Rs 60,000/- An amount of Rs 5000/- will be charged for each specimen that is retrieved from unknown /unclaimed cadavers that are to be supplied to private medical colleges, as per the orders issued on Friday.
