TS Govt to execute Rs. 2,500 Cr works under NREGS

Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Wednesday said that the Telangana Government proposes to execute works worth Rs. 2,500 Crore under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme during current financial year.

Speaking to media persons after reviewing NREGS works in Farooq Nagar mandal of Mahabubnagar district, the minister said that nearly Rs. 1,700 crore worth works were executed during 2015-16. He said each NREGS worker would be paid daily wages of Rs. 194 for 8 hours of work. He said nearly 50% of labourers holding NREGS card were being provided 100 days of work.

The minister also reviewed the functioning of Grama Jyothi works. He said special focus was being laid on providing basic amenities like drinking water, roads, drainage and toilets n the rural areas. He also gave a brief account of various welfare schemes being implemented by the State Government. (INN)
