TS Govt to establish Safety Academy

Labour and Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy said that the Telangana Government would soon set up a Safety Academy.

 Addressing the World Safety and Health Protection Day celebrations organised by National Safety Council and Department of Factories at FTAPCCI Auditorium here on Friday, Nayani said the Safety Academy would be set up at a suitable location in Ranga Reddy district. He said that the Academy would help in ensuring protection for workers of different factories. He said that the government would take stern action against the managements who neglect safety of their workers and labourers.

The minister also said that the contract labourers should be paid minimum wages as per prescribed norms. He said that the new rates of minimum wages would be announced on the Labour Day on May 1. He said as per Labour Law, it would be mandatory for the industries to pay minimum wages of Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 18,000 to contract labourers. He also exhorted the unions to launch agitation against the managements who exploit their labourers. (INN)
