TS Failed on Drought Relief, Despite Central Aid–BJP

Telangana BJP today alleged that the TRS government has not taken any measures to deal with the drought situation in the state despite the centre releasing Rs 791 crore for taking up drought relief works.

A BJP delegation led by state BJP chief Dr K Laxaman today met state chief secretary Rajiv Varma and submitted a memorandum on drought situation. It may be mentioned here that the BJP leaders have recently visited the state and interacted with drought affected farmers and people.

Speaking to media after submitting a memorandum to the chief secretary, Dr Laxaman demanded the state government to allot Rs five crore to each mandal for taking up drought relief works immediately.  The government should also provide feed (dana) to poultry and animal husbandry farms besides setting up help centres in villages in the state.

The BJP chief also demanded the Government to stop recovery of loans in drought affected mandals and provide subsidy for fertilisers and seeds for the kharif crop. He said so far 243 mandals are in the grip of drought. But the TRS government has declared only 231 mandals as drought affected.

Laxaman expressed concern that so far 360 people have died due to sunstroke in the state, but the government has not taken any measures in this regard.(NSS)
