Telangana: Khammam police arrested a 63-year-old former Sarpanch (head) for allegedly attempted to sexually assault a minor girl at his house in Mudigonda Mandal of Khammam district on Wednesday. The accused was beaten up by the villagers after the incident.
Later, he was hospitalized over the act, police informs. The suspect lives alone in the neighbourhood of the 13-year-old girl. According to PTI reports, On Wednesday night he asked the girl to bring some snacks from a local store and when she went to his house the former Sarpanch tried to sexually assault her.
A police official says the accused called her to his home by noticing that her parents weren’t there at home when parents returned from a function they did not find their daughter at home.
When the parents started looking for their daughter they heard cries from the neighbouring house which belongs to the accused the parents rushed to his house and rescued their daughter.
Then the residents of the area bet up the former Sarpanch over the act, later the accused was admitted to a hospital with injuries and his condition is stated to be stable, the official said.
Parents lodged a complaint at the local police station and a case was registered by the police under IPC section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and further probe is on, the investigation official added.
