TS bus accident: Death reaches 60, driver awarded best employee last month

The accident involving the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus which occurred on near Shanivarapet village some 200 km from state capital Hyderabad has claimed 60 lives. The deceased were from nearby villages, some of them died due to suffocation, while others succumbed to head injuries.

The Police and TSRTC officials said over 90 passengers were travelling on the bus at the time of the incident which is against seating capacity of 54.

The official said the bus driver has presented the best driver award last month itself and was also earlier rewarded for best fuel efficiency, which indicated his impeccable driving skills.

A case has been registered and the investigation has started, some experts will examine the vehicle to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, Arun Kumar, a High Court lawyer approached State Human Rights Commission, seeking direction to police to book cases of culpable homicide against the officials whose negligence led to the accident, and also asked Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia each for the families of the dead.
