Hyderabad: In order to ensure a free-and-fair election in Telangana State, Election Commission of Indian (ECI) in coordination with Telangana Govt. proposed installation of CCTVs at all polling booths.
According to the report published in The Hans India, there is a proposal to install CCTVs at 32, 572 polling booths. These CCTV will be connected to Central Monitoring System which will be established both at the office of ECI, New Delhi and Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office, Hyderabad.
This proposal was made by ECI officials in a video conference which was conducted with State Chief Secretary SK Joshi, DGP M Mahender Reddy, Telangana CEO Rajat Kumar and others.
It may be mentioned that the main aim of the proposal is to stop malpractices.
In 2014 elections, out of 29138 polling booths, webcams were provided in 16500 booths and videographers were deployed in the rest of the booths.
The final decision is yet to be taken.
