TS, AP in quandary on Eamcet counseling

With Supreme Court ordering conduct of EAMCET 2014 counseling without causing loss to the students and stop politicizing the issue, both Telangana and AP governments are mulling options. Though the AP government, which moved the Apex Court is happy with its judgment, the Telangana State government is planning to tackle the issue. The TS Govt is awaiting final verdict on August 11 to come up with an action plan on counseling.
Curiously, the Telangana government issued orders constituting its own higher education council which will focus on separate counseling. Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy today held discussions with Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma on Supreme Court judgment on Eamcet counseling. Along with Telangana State Higher Education Council Chairman Papi Reddy, the Minister called on the Chief Secretary and shared his views. While the apex court adjourned final hearing to August 11 after directing to complete counseling by August 31 and commence classes in September first week, the government is mulling options on it.
It may be mentioned here that the TS Govt came up with a scheme called FAST to pay the fees instead of reimbursement. It already appealed to the students and their parents to abstain from attending the counseling to be conducted by AP Govt. It also assured of doing justice to the TS students with regard to fees reimbursement. A step ahead, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao maintained that they are not ready to pay fees to the students of AP. Nativity being the bone of contention for deciding on the fee, both governments are trying their best possible options to tide over this crisis like situation.
The AP Govt moved the Supreme Court to direct the Telangana Govt to cooperate for common counseling. However, KCR Government is reluctant to budge to AP’s pressure on fees reimbursement as it has come up with FAST scheme to take on the issue. AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who offered to pay fee in the ratio of 58 and 42 per cent, welcomed the judgment. (NSS)
