Hyderabad: Will the two Telugu States prove tough against the Center? BJP which supported bifurcation of AP was confident that both these States will toe its line. TDP in AP aligned itself with NDA whereas TRS led by Mr. KCR adopted a strategy of supporting NDA without aligning itself. Both the States had high hopes with the Center but of late, they have realized that their wishes are not going to be fulfilled and hence they have resorted to adopt the strategy of conflict with the Center.
Mr. Chandrababu Naidu wants to take up the issue of not getting sufficient funds for AP whereas Mr. KCR has declared that he would approach Supreme Court if the issue of reservations is not taken up by the Center.
It may be mentioned that at the time of bifurcation of AP, promises were made by the Central Govt. to offer financial aid to both the States but the situation is that both the CMs seem to have threatened the Central Govt. to go to Supreme Court on various issues.
Mr. Naidu is irritated with the attitude of the Vice Chairman of NITI Ayog who had advised him to explore the possibilities of completing State projects through its own resources. He contradicted the claim of Mr. KCR that Andhra rulers destroyed Telangana. He also said that AP needs financial assistance from Center. Many a time, he made an objection to the stand taken by the Center. TDP Ministers in the Central Cabinet also feel helpless. In such a situation, there is no other alternative left for AP except to come in conflict with the Center. It is presumed that TDP might dissociate itself with NDA in the next General Elections. It remains to be seen what kind of strategy Mr. Naidu will adopt.
On the other hand, CM of TS, Mr. KCR has announced that he would not hesitate to launch Dharna program in New Delhi if reservations are not considered. TRS Govt. wants to get its issues resolved maintaining good relations with the Center but the policy of reservation is such that it would become essential for the TRS to come in conflict with the Center. The only future course of action would decide what kind of strategy Mr. KCR is going to adopt. Will TRS take a tough stand in the budget session of the Parliament is a question which remains to be answered.
In the recently held “India Today Conclave”, Mr. KCR had declared that he would approach SC on the issue of reservations.
