Trying hard to control violence: Haryana Police

Chandigarh: The Haryana Police on Saturday said instances of violence have come down in the city and efforts are being made to control the agitation Jat protestors demanding reservations.

“The instances of violence have come down. We are trying hard to control violence. We have called army and paramilitary forces,” Haryana DGP Y.P. Singhal said.

The agitation began as Jats are demanding reservation for the community in government jobs and educational institutions.

The protestors are not blocking roads everywhere, at some place people are responding in a peaceful way after talking to police and authorities, Singhal said at a press conference.

He said that blockades have been opened at many places after discussions with the agitators.

“Would request elders of the Jat community to discourage the youth from protesting and stop them from moving towards cities,” DGP said.

“Flag march is underway in affected areas. I am sure the situation will normalise soon,” Singhal added.
