Washington D.C. [USA]: United States President Donald Trump’s lawyer and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Saturday pointed out that there was a “good chance” that the three American hostages in North Korea will be released over the “next several days”.
Speaking at the Iran Freedom Convention for Democracy and Human Rights here, Giuliani said, “There is a good chance that the three longtime hostages in North Korea will be released over the next several days. The (Trump) administration is working on it. I pray that that happens,” The Hill reported.
On Iran, Giuliani added that President Trump was “committed to the change of regime.” “It’s (Regime change in Iran) the only way to peace in the Middle East and more important than an Israeli-Palestinian (peace) deal,” he was quoted by Politico as saying.
On the status of the three hostages in North Korea, Giuliani told CNN after the speech, “The less said about it right now, the better. But we could have three people released.” President Trump on Thursday hinted at the possibility of the release of three American hostages, who were detained in North Korea.
In a midnight tweet, President Trump wrote, “As everybody is aware, the past Administration has long been asking for three hostages to be released from a North Korean Labor camp, but to no avail. Stay tuned!” The tweet comes after a report emerged that North Korea relocated three American detainees from a labour camp to a hotel on the outskirts of Pyongyang, ahead of a planned summit between President Trump and North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un, according to a South Korean activist, who was quoted by Yonhap News Agency as saying.
The three American citizens are – Kim Hak-song, Tony Kim and Kim Dong-chul. They were accused of espionage or doing “hostile acts” against North Korea. On a related note, President Trump announced last week that he could meet North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un within “three to four weeks”.
