Jerusalem: Thousands of people took part in fresh protests held across the world on Friday against Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
It may be mentioned that Trump’s announcement prompted an almost universal diplomatic backlash, including warnings from Turkey, the European Union and Russia over the risks of new violence in the Middle East. Protests were held in the occupied Palestinian territories, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq and other countries of the world.
According to the news published in Al Jazeera, after Friday prayers at the Masjid Al-Aqsa, Palestinians took to the streets. However, they were stopped from entering Old City. Protests also held in Ramallah, Bethlehem and other places.
In Gaza Strip, Palestinians protested at the border with Israel. Firing took place and tear gas was also released.
Protest rallies against Trump’s decision were also held in Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, Tokyo, capital of Japan.
It may be mentioned that all the Muslim countries are united against the Trump’s decision. Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also declared East Jerusalem the capital of Palestine. It also urged the US to withdraw its Jerusalem decision.
Reacting to the decision of OIC, Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel said that truth will win. He also said that many countries will recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
