American President Donald Trump has warned Turkey not to bring U.S. and Turkish forces into conflict and has asked to curtail Turkey’s military operation in Syria.
In reply, Turkey has said that the statement issued by White House does not accurately reflect the conversation. Trump during his conversation with President Erdogan did not share any concerns about escalating violence’ with regard to the ongoing military operation in Afrin.
It must be noted that Turkey’s air and ground operation has been targeting U.S.-backed Kurdish YPG fighters, in Syria’s Afrin region, for the past five days.
Turkey sees them as allies of Kurdish insurgents who have fought in southeastern Turkey for decades.
The YPG fighters present in Syria are fighting against Bashar al-Assad government. They are backed by the US. Hence Trump has warned Turkey against targeting American interest in Syria.
