Trump Triumphs: Let’s hope he will prove different from his image!

America has already indulged in a massive bloodshed. Tyranny and atrocities are sure to boomerang howsoever powerful the tyrant may be. Trump may not be in love for the Muslim world. But if he has any sense of justice or intends to develop it, he must know that America has killed more than 3 million innocent Muslims in Middle East in recent years. American interventions have already started boomeranging. America is no longer the power it used to be. The Middle East has changed and is heading for more changes. The best course for Trump to pursue will be to try to win over the love of Muslims rather than hatred, which already is very high in the Muslim World.

In an article dated 24th July in Siasat (http://www.siasat.com/news/recent-spurt-terror-attacks-may-continue-till-trump-wins-991710/) I had written, “Believe me or not, Trump is heading for victory.” After the article was published, not only many angrily rejected my prediction, I too felt a little unsure of myself why I made such a prediction. But my inner self continued to believe that Trump will win. All these months, there were hardly any who believed in that. But Trump’s moment of triumph finally arrived. Against all the projections in the international media, he has trounced Hilary Clinton handsomely and is now set to become the President of America.

I have always believed that an American President is first the President of a state that cannot divert from its policy of dominating the world irrespective of the personal inclinations. Hilary or Trump, it would not have made much difference. However, considering the image riding on which Trump finally emerged victorious, we may well see a more aggressive America in coming years. This is another matter that considering the recent developments, I believe America would no longer be in a position to dictate the affairs. It is no more a unipolar world which it has been for around a quarter of a century. New developments and new alignments are under way. Trump’s perceived admiration for Putin was in fact nothing more than a tactical ploy to push Clinton. Once in power, he would like to see Putin’s status diminished. Whether he succeeds or fails is for the time to decide. The chances are that he will have to adopt a more reconciliatory approach. The aggression like that of last two decades is not going to work for America anymore.

In his victory speech, Trump sounded positive and balanced. But he did not forget to tell the world that American interests are the first priority rather than the justice. Obviously, justice for America is only what suits its interests. “War on Terror” was its method of justice, and if Trump continues on the same path, the world may soon head towards Doomsday.

Muslims in America may be feeling anxious about their future. But they would better understand that Hilary could not have proved better. Trump’s words against Muslims might have won him some votes but if he tries to translate words into action, this would not augur well for America. It can hardly afford to deal with a divided America and a divided world at the same time. He must understand that divisions can bring only short term advantages for a selected few. Unity and justice go together and together they lead to peace.

The signs of unease are already visible in Asia. Markets are on the slide. Hopefully, Trump will try to allay the fears that have become so inseparably associated with him. Hopefully, he will be a changed man after winning. Hopefully he will not prove worse than Obama who started appearing angel to many in comparison to Trump. The truth however is that Obama administration did not help the cause of peace in any appreciable way. Obama might not have invaded countries like Bush but he has exported rebellions and civil wars in several Muslim countries turning them into ruins. He was certainly no friend of Muslims. Now, Trump has a golden opportunity to prove that he is a more sensible President of India.
