Trump ready to meet Rouhani without conditions

Washington: A week after he traded threats with the Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, US President Donald Trump said he would be willing to meet with his Iranian counterpart without first demanding diplomatic concessions.

He said this while responding to a question at a White House news conference on Monday. The remark by Mr Trump is seen as his off-the-cuff style of diplomacy. According to top White House advisers, there had been no internal planning for a potential meeting with the Iranian president.

However contrary to Trump’s offer Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a televised interview listed preconditions for such a meeting.

It must be recalled that nearly 3 months ago Trump withdrew the U.S. from the international accord aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
