BATHINDA: Shamsuddin Chaudhary and his friend Mubeen becomes the true ‘Gau Rakshak’ whose prompt action save the life of a stray cow bleeding profusely in the middle of the road.
According to Times of India, the incident happened on Saturday midnight in Malerkotla, predominantly Muslim region of Punjab.
Shamsuddin, after dropping Mubeen at Ajit Nagar area was on his to home when he spotted a stray cow on the road critically injured bleeding profusely.
Shamsuddin, a businessman by profession stopped his vehicle with an intention to help and called up Mubeen. Both friends tried calling several police officials but received no immediate help.
“After watching the cow, which was apparently hit by some fast moving vehicle, I called up Mubeen. We together started calling up the police to rescue the animal. However, we could not get any immediate response. I then called Malerkotla SDM Showkat Ahmed Parray,” Chaudhry was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“The SDM luckily picked the phone and asked us to wait for five minutes. He called the local municipal council executive officer, who on his part asked the employees to reach Ludhiana bypass, where the animal was lying on the road.”
“We then somehow took the animal to the local cow shelter and ensured that no other vehicle hit it till help arrived,” he added.
Showkat Ahmed, an IAS officer of 2014 batch told TOI, “I got a call from the youths at 12.40am. I asked the MC officials to save the animal and get it treated properly. I also called the PCR at Sangrur which reached there in half an hour and took the cow to gaushala where the veterinary hospital staff saved her.”
The entire rescue operation took two hours and both friends returned home after ensuring the cow was safe.
