Truck driver, 35 buffaloes killed in accident

Kathmandu, July 25:A truck carrying 35 buffaloes fell into a river in southern Nepal, killing all the cattle and the driver, police said today. The vehicle was on his way to the capital city from Narayanghat when it lost balance and fell into the Trishuli river at Benighat early morning, they said.

Four persons who sustained injuries in the accident have been admitted to the B & B Hospital for treatment. In another incident, the locals vandalised 14 petrol tankers at Inarwa Chowk in Birgunj in southern Nepal today, protesting delay in the arrival of police to extinguish the fire caught by a tanker accidentally.

Meanwhile, local bus operators carried on with their ongoing strike demanding better security and compensation to the damaged vehicle. Yesterday, the operators launched an indefinite strike after some agitated students last week had burnt a mini-bus here.

However, taxi and three wheelers plied on the roads. PTI SBP SHN.
