Hyderabad, July 30: Riding the crest of a separate statehood campaign, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) today swept the by elections in the region winning six of the 12 Assembly seats and leading in five others.
The ruling Congress and main opposition TDP drew a blank with Congress suffering a humiliation when its state unit President D Srinivas lost again in Nizamabad Urban seat, like in the last assembly elections.
In the elections forced by the resignation of sitting MLAs in favour of separate Telangana demand earlier this year, the TRS, spearheading the agitation, has retained six seats and was on course to winning another five. While ten seats were held by it, a TDP MLA, who resigned his seat and joined TRS, emerged victorious this time.
One seat has gone to BJP, which it had held earlier.
