TRS wants metro rail project design changed

Hyderabad, October 13: Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA K Taraka Rama Rao on Wednesday alleged that the state government has awarded the prestigious Rs 16,000 crore Hyderabad Metro Rail Project to L&T Company in order to protect the construction company interests.

Addressing the victims of Hyderabad Metro Rail Project at TRS Bhavan, KTR said that his party would intensify its agitation against L&T if the firm does not change its earlier design, which would affect large number of heritage structures besides displacing hundreds of families living in the city. He slammed the government for allocating 281 acres land worth thousands of crores of rupees to L&T as part of constructing the project.

The Siricilla MLAs said that despite several representations the L&T company has not changed its earlier design and going ahead with the metro project costing Rs 16,000 crore.

Stating that the TRS never opposed the metro rail project, he said the party wants the design to be changed to ensure that no one gets displaced. “We have no objection if the company constructs metro rail project without affecting any families,” he stated.

Protesting against the government attitude in this connection, he said the victims of project would observe bandh on October 14 in the affected areas which include Greenlands in Ameerpet, Saradhi studio, Yousufguda, Krishna nagar, Jubilee Hills and Madhapur. He said the TRS would extend total support to bandh and fight relentlessly for change in the design of project.

KTR said that his party would convene all party meeting soon to elicit opinion of other parties on the project.
