The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has announced that it would soon intensify the statehood agitation.
Addressing a symposium on Mulki Rules held at Telangana Bhavan here on Tuesday, TRS Deputy Floor leader T Harish Rao said that the party would take the statehood agitation mode to “Do or Die” level, if the Centre fails to announce the formation of Telangana State at the earliest. Giving references from the history of Telangana agitation, he said that the statehood demand was not new and several agitations were held since the Mulki Rules of 1952. He said the injustices for the region have continued to exist for the last 60 years.
Harish Rao said that as per the Mulki Rules, only 20 per cent non-locals could be employed in Telangana region. However, he said the percentage has exceeded in many districts and about 42 per cent employees working in Ranga Reddy district are non-locals. He also accused Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy of cheating the people of Telangana by not fulfilling the promise of constituting a committee to ensure the implementation of GO 610. He said Kiran Kumar Reddy was following the footsteps of former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu who did not implement the GO 610 during his nine-year tenure.
The TRS leader also welcomed the High Court verdict on the lcoal body elections. Stating that the TRS was ready to face the elections, he claimed that the party would sweep the polls in the region. He said the local body elections would give an opportunity to display the gravity of demand for formation of Telangana State.
