TRS, TDP protests continue in Assembly

Hyderabad, February 22: Except paying condolences to the departed former members, no business took place in the state Assembly on Monday due to continuous protests by TRS members on separate Telangana issue.

Uproarious scenes were witnessed whenever the House reassembled. There was no change in the situation though the House met after a two-day break. Separate Telangana and student fee reimbursement issues rocked the Assembly.

As the agitating members, including the TRS and Telangana TDP legislators, were not ready to hear his appeals to cooperate with him, deputy speaker N Manohar adjourned the House thrice from 9.10 am to 10.25 am, 11.06 am to 11.08 am and 12.33 pm to 12.38 pm.

Finally, the House was adjourned for the day.

As soon as the House met at 9 am, the deputy speaker disallowed all the adjournment motion notices given by various political parties which included ‘mortgage of SC/ST properties and fee reimbursement’ (TDP and CPI), passage of resolution on Telangana by Assembly (TRS), non-cooperation movement and introduction of Telangana Bill in Parliament (BJP), and demolition of poor people’s huts at Singareni colony (CPM).

The TRS members immediately rushed towards the speaker’s podium and started raising slogans in support of their demand.

Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu urged the Chair to take steps for revocation of one week suspension imposed on five party members.

The deputy speaker should have taken the views of various political parties into consideration before suspending the members.

The members might have acted depending on the circumstances that prevailed on that (Feb 17) day, he added.

Intervening, labour minister D Nagender demanded that the suspended members should first tender an unconditional apology to the people of the state before seeking revocation of their suspension.

Tempers ran high in the House when the minister remarked that the opposition leader was ‘shamelessly’ asking for revocation of suspension orders against the members who went on a rampage during the Governor’s address on February 17.

There was no change in situation even after the deputy speaker held talks with the party floor leaders.

Meanwhile, T-Congress MLAs who returned from Delhi after talks, attended the session for the first time on Monday.

They wore caps and shirts bearing Telangana map and ‘Jai Congress’ slogan.

About 15 MLAs, including B Srinivasa Reddy, Jayasudha and K Surekha, who are supporting former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy, were seen displaying posters on the fee reimbursement issue.
