TRS to take Telangana agitation to grassroots

Hyderabad, October 11: TRS leaders would undertake visits to villages from October end to take the Telangana statehood agitation to the grassroot level and strengthen the party, TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao said today.

The TRS politburo, the apex decision-making body of the sub-regional outfit, would meet on October 13 to prepare an action plan for the future, he said, addressing a gathering at the party office here.

The politburo meeting assumes significance in the wake of revolutionary folk artist and balladeer Gaddar floating a “non-political” front to fight for Telangana, which has been dubbed as an alternative to the TRS.

Asserting that a “big battle” needs to be undertaken after the Srikrishna Committee submitted its report to the Centre by the year-end, he asked the people to be united and contribute their “might for achieving separate Telangana”.

In the aftermath of his fast-unto-death in December last year, the Centre had, for the first time, announced its decision to form separate Telangana, he said.

Realising that leaders of Congress and TDP were not doing enough to achieve separate state, lower-rung leaders from the parties and people in general were joining TRS in large numbers, Rao claimed.
