TRS stir to dominate Assembly session

Hyderabad, December 07: The 13-day winter session of the State Legislative Assembly and Council is commencing on Monday in the backdrop of the TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s fast-unto-death for separate Telangana, the violence it has triggered and a 48-hour bandh call given by the party.

The proceedings will commence with both Houses of Legislature paying homage to former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who died in a helicopter crash.

Resolution tomorrow

The government is expected to move a resolution in the House against declaration of Hyderabad as a free zone on Tuesday even as the TRS is likely to utilise the session for stepping up its demand for a unanimous resolution seeking statehood for Telangana.

The other major parties, including the TDP, Praja Rajyam and the CPI have announced their support to the resolution on separate Telangana if the ruling party was willing to move it.

Meanwhile, the ruling party has to face the agitated TRS members on the one hand while it has to counter the TDP on the controversy surrounding the Obulapuram Mining Company.

Other key issues

Other issues that are likely to dominate the proceedings include the unprecedented floods in the Krishna that left a trail of destruction, drought conditions, price rise and rampant corruption.
