Opining personally that direct election was good for GHMC Mayor post, TPCC has demanded the ruling TRS party to confine Mayor election at least to the winning 150 corporators, instead of allowing ex-officio members also to vote.
Participating in the ‘Meet the Press’ program organized by the TUWJ at Somajiguda Press Club here on Wednesday, TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS was indulging in all illegal activities to make their candidate as Mayor. He said that the Congress candidate would become a Mayor winning more seats than it won in the last election.
Responding to IT Minister KT Ramarao’s challenge that he will resign to his Minister post in case the party will not win the Mayor post, Uttam said that KTR will not loose anything if he resigns to his Minister post because all posts were confined to his family. “The Congress party is not a family party. Congress party is a decentralized party and it will select the candidates on the basis of ‘select and elect’ process” he said. He alleged that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was a narrow minded politician and he does everything for political gain. “Everybody expected that everything will be in a good manner in the new state with new traditions in all sectors. But nothing changed, more so, the politics have been taking uncalled for turns due to KCR”, he alleged.
When reminded of KTR’s allegation that the previous parties, which ruled the State, only developed traffic jams and bad smell in Hyderabad, Uttam questioned as to what KCR and KTR were doing on the same issues now.
He said that the party will utilize the national level leaders for the campaign and it will use the services of Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi in the campaign.
When asked about MIM party, he alleged that the MIM party entered into a secret pact with BJP and it was trying to divide the society on religious lines along with BJP. He made it clear that the party will not enter into any pre or post alliance with MIM.
Earlier, Uttam said that the Congress party created Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation with Rs.5000 crore budget, but the TRS was the party which failed to conduct the election in time, though it came power 19 months ago and alleged that the TRS was trying to win the Mayor post with all possible irregularities. He alleged that the TRS party distracted the election process by indulging in bad practices like bad delimitation of divisions, announcement of reservations at last minute etc. Finding fault with the election authorities, he expressed doubts on their neutrality in conducting elections, and it was proved with the TRS party’s hoardings, and flexis on metro pillars. “The TRS party has a role in delay of completion of Metro Rail project, and it did nothing to Hyderabad”, he alleged.
Asserting that the TRS failed to protect the Hyderabad Brand, he said that it created uncertainty, insecurity among the people living here as settlers. He alleged that the TRS, which in general deceives the people with new assurances, was now trying to deceive the Hyderabad people with its assurances. The TRS Government constructed only 200 double bed rooms in its 19 months rule and it destroyed the education sector around the Hyderabad city by not implementing the Fees Reimbursement scheme properly. He asked the people of Hyderabad to cast their vote to Congress party. (NSS)
