Hyderabad, January 20: The 24 hour-bandh, called by the Osmanania University students’ Joint Action Committee in protest against delay in announcement of time schedule for formation of Telangana, began today amid tight security.
The bandh was backed by the political JAC, which advanced its deadline of January 28 for the Centre’s announcement and started putting pressure on Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker N Kirankumar Reddy for acceptance of their resignation last night, leading to arrest of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Legislators, including its Floor Leader E Rajender, Deputy Floor Leader T Harish Rao, K Taraka Rama Rao and PRP MLA Mahinder Reddy.
State Road Transport Corporation withdrew bus services in view of the bandh. Shops and business establishments remained closed.
Central Para Military Forces, including Rapid Action Force (RAF), were deployed in the Osmania University and other vital installations to prevent any untoward incident.
The sitatuation in the University campus and other places was tense but under control, police said.
