TRS politicising drugs racket: Ponguleti

Deputy CLP leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy has accused the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of playing politics over the drugs racket which was busted by the Excise Department.

Speaking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office here on Saturday, Ponguleti said that the TRS Government was trying to cover up its major failures by giving lot of publicity to various scandals that are getting exposed in the State. Instead of being apologetic for the existence of drugs mafia in the State, TRS leaders are trying to give a wrong impression as if the mafia was run by opposition parties. He said that the credit for exposing the drugs mafia goes to the officials of Excise Department. However, Chief Minister K .Chandrashekar Rao and IT Minister K. Tarakarama Rao are trying to take credit for the same while they should have resigned from their posts owing moral responsibility.

Ponguleti alleged that senior IPS officer Akun Sabharwal, who is leading the investigation in the drugs case, is under immense political pressure to hush up the case. He demanded that Sabharwal be provided adequate security and he should be allowed to conduct an impartial investigations. He also demanded that the first list of accuses/suspects in drugs case, prepared by Sabhawal, be made public.

He said that the CLP would meet soon to discuss the issue and the Central Government would be asked to conduct an impartial probe by involving a Central agency like CBI. He said that the drugs case has badly affected the image of brand Hyderabad. (INN)
