TRS MLAs stage dharna in front of CM’s office

Hyderabad, December 17: Tension gripped the State Secretariat as Telananga Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Legislature Party leader E Rajender and his partyman and former State Minister T Harish Rao staged a demonstration in front of the Chief Minister’s office today, demanding withdrawal of all cases allegedly ”foisted” on students of Osmania University.

Raising slogans against the Congress Government, the TRS legislators alleged that the state police was ”foisting” fresh cases against students as and when courts concerned granted them bail in earlier cases to ensure that they languish in jails.

Even after Andhra Pradesh Home Minister P Sabita Reddy announced that all cases registered against students would be withdrawn, fresh cases were being foisted against student leaders heading the Joint-Action Committee, which spearheaded the pro-Telangana stir in support of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s fast-unto-death stir, Mr Rajender alleged.

As many as 5,360 students were arrested by the state police during the stir from November 29 when Mr Rao began the sit in till December 9 when Union Home Minister P Chidamabram made the announcement to set in motion the process for creation of separate Telangana state.
