TRS MLA arrested in city

Police took TRS MLAs into custody when they tried to begin hunger strike at the Vidyut Soudha, headquarters of the State Electricity Board here on Tuesday.

The MLAs were demanding seven-hour power supply to agriculture in the Telangana region. As they were obstructing vehicular traffic, police initially tried to persuade the MLAs to leave the place. Tension prevailed for a while when the MLAs resisted arrests.

The TRS leaders met the APTrasnsco CMD on Saturday and demanded him to give in writing that power would be supplied for seven hours uninterruptedly. Yielding to their pressure, the CMD committed in writing that seven-hour power supply would be maintained.

However, the MLAs including Eetela Rajender, Harish Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Rajaiah staged a dharna at the CMD’s office on Tuesday, alleging that even the written assurances were not being fulfilled. Therefore, the police took the MLAs into custody and cleared the traffic.
