TRS making false promises on Telangana: TDP

Hyderabad, January 17: Senior TDP leader Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary said that Telangana leaders of the party insisted for creation of separate party unit for Telangana region as per the aspirations of the people of their region. However, he recalled that there were no separate party units for Congress, BJP or the Left parties in the state.

Speaking to reporters here today, Chowdary said the demand of Telangana leaders would be discussed in the party and a decision would be taken accordingly in the larger interests of the party. He recalled that the TDP was stronger in Telangana region than in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

Despite different opinions in the party, all should sail together in the interest of the party, he said.

Chowdary, however, ridiculed the TRS’ assurances to cash the sentiments of the people of the region. “The total government workforce in the state was just 12 lakhs and the TRS assured that one crore jobs would be created in separate Telangana. How is it possible,” Chowdary wondered.

If the entire agriculture land in Telangana region is distributed each family would get about one-and-a-half acres. But, the TRS promised to distribute three acres of land to each family, he said.

On the demand for separate Telangana state, he said Srikrishna Committee has already submitted its report and it was the Centre to take a decision on that.

Deploring the increase of petro prices, Chowdary wanted the state government to reduce the VAT to 17 per cent on petrol and 14 per cent on diesel. He also demanded that the four per cent VAT on domestic gas refill and kerosene should be abolished.
